Derived from the undulating green landscape of the golf course, the architectural design of Dusit Thani Laguna presents a unique aesthetic character. The sleek, curvilinear form of the building, encompassing the club and hotel functions under one swooping roof, complements the natural beauty of the golf course. This state-of-the-art union of a world-class golf club and a Dusit-Thani branded hotel sets Dusit Thani Laguna apart from other golf resorts.
The resort, formerly known as Laguna National Golf and Country Club, has been a prominent golf and country club in Singapore since 1993. With the addition of a new five-star luxury hotel, it is set to become a premier urban golf resort. The project includes a makeover of the existing three-storey clubhouse and the provision of a six-storey new hotel, spanning a total area of 1,168,652.5 sqm.
The roof of the building, made of special cementitious fiber boards and a marine-grade membrane, displays a uniform seamless surface with no visible joints. This design feature, along with the shared, glazed facade, gives the premises a spacious appearance and allows occupants to enjoy a spectacular landscape view. The hotel includes rooms from the first to the sixth storeys, a group of penthouses with private terraces, and eight corporate booths, each with their own elevated pool, facing directly the golf course.
The clubhouse, also known as the 19th hole, is where golfers relax after a round of golf. The resort caters to guests looking for the perfect golfing experience as well as those simply seeking to witness and enjoy its beautiful landscape. The resort is located within the grounds of the Laguna National Golf and Country Club, a renowned golf destination that hosts international tournaments and major championships.
The design of Dusit Thani Laguna was not without challenges. The combination of a hotel and clubhouse made it a complex proposition. The idea for a single, unified, and seamless roof seemed challenging due to the discrepancy in height and awkward marriage of the two buildings with largely different functions. However, through extensive research, Mercurio Design Lab was able to find the technology to effectuate the plan, resulting in a dynamic and unified building that merges almost seamlessly with the surging landscape of the golf course.
This innovative design has not gone unnoticed. Dusit Thani Laguna was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021, a prestigious accolade granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. These are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
